CleanPage Email Feature

Email the main text of a webpage. The email content contains the original link to the webpage followed by the main text found on the webpage.

The first time you use CleanPage email feature on your system, you need to specify the "From" address and the "To" addresses. However, the settings will be remembered once you make any changes; CleanPage will automatically fill in these settings for you. The email subject and content will be automatically filled in according to the original webpage. You only need to click on "Send".

Email Address Book
CleanPage uses the Microsoft Outlook address book and the Windows Address Book to manage Email addresses. If Outlook is installed on your Windows PC, CleanPage will automatically use the Outlook address book. Otherwise, CleanPage will use the Windows Address Book, which is installed by default on all Windows systems.

Advanced Settings...
For most of CleanPage users, there is no need to change the advanced settings of the email feature. CleanPage will by default use the Readonweb email server to send out your messages.

However, Readonweb provides an interface for you to change the default settings of the email feature. You can specified a different outgoing mail server other than the Readonweb email server. The "Advanced Settings" interface provides the following options for sending your email:

1. Use my Readonweb account

This is the default mode to send your messages. It's also the most convenient and fastest way to send email. You use your Readonweb account, which is the same account as your Readonweb Forum account, to send email messages.

2. Use my GMail account (your firewall must allow port# 465)

CleanPage provides an integrated method for using the email feature through your GMail account. Email messages will be sent by your GMail account. If you are behind a firewall, it needs to allow Internet access through port #465.

3. Use my PC as a simulated email server (restrictions may apply)

NOTE: In our best effort to stop email spam, this option has been removed from the latest versions of CleanPage.

4. ~ enter a new server ~

You can specify a new server by choosing this option. After you specify your own server settings, the new email server will show up below the "~ enter a new server ~" option in the pull-down menu. You can choose your newly specified email server to be your default outgoing mail server.

Text-to-Speech Feature

Let the computer read out loud the main text on the webpage.

After you click the Text-to-Speech button, Readonweb extracts and reads out loud the main text on the webpage for you. A separate program named ReadonwebTTS will appear.

ReadonwebTTS program interface window

Readonweb highlights each word being read out loud. You can watch the highlight move while your computer reads the text.

By minimizing the ReadonwebTTS window, you can let the PC read in the background. When you browse to a new webpage and want your PC to read the new text, simply click on the Text-to-Speech button. Readonweb will stop reading the previous text and start to read the new text.

Within the ReadonwebTTS window, you can stop the PC reading out and select the text block of your interest:
How to pause/resume reading

If the ReadonwebTTS program is in the background, click on the drop-down arrow next to the (Text-to-Speech) button, then click on "Pause" or "Resume".

If the ReadonwebTTS program is in the foreground, click on the (pause) or (resume) button inside the ReadonwebTTS window.

Available voice types

CleanPage currently uses the Microsoft Text-to-Speech Engine, which is free licensed to end users. CleanPage automatically finds all of the available voice types installed on your system. You can change the voice type by click on the dropdown field labeled "voice" in the ReadonwebTTS window.

If your PC can't open the Readonweb Text-to-Speech window, you need to download and install the Microsoft TTS Engine..

When your PC is running Windows 2000 or XP, If the Readonweb Text-to-Speech window only shows Microsoft Sam as the available voice type, you can download and install the free Microsoft Mike and Mary voice types. Microsoft Mike and Mary voice types provide better voice quality than Microsoft Sam.

Note: The Text-to-Speech feature is included in the CleanPage TTS Subscription and in the CleanPage Premium Subscription.

CleanPage Print Feature

Print the main content of a cleaned webpage.

With CleanPage print feature, you can specify your favorite text font size and font type from the drop-down list. In addition, you can choose whether to print the original webpage link:

    1. Print the link above the main text.
    2. Print the link below the main text.
    3. do NOT print the link

After you choose the font size, font type, and the way to print the original webpage link, CleanPage remembers the options you specified. So you do not need to specify them each time you want to print.

CleanPage Edit Feature

Edit the main content of a webpage using Microsoft Word.

Before using this feature, you need to have Microsoft Word installed in your Windows system. Otherwise, nothing happens upon clicking the (edit) button. After you finish editing, you need to save the document to a different directory with a filename other than the temporary file that Readonweb uses.

Speed Reading Feature

Use the main text of a webpage as a resource for practising and improving your reading skills.

After clicking on the Speed Reading button, Readonweb extracts the main text on the webpage and feeds it into the Readonweb Speed Reading software. You will see a Speed Reading window pop up in the foreground.

CleanPage grays out the text and only highlights the lines you are reading.

Within the Speed Reading window, you can specify the font size and type to be displayed, the number of lines highlighted to be read, and your reading speed.

The reading speed is measured by Words per minute or Characters per minute. Speed in "Words" per minute is for languages that are word based, such as English. Speed in "Characters" per minute is for languages that are character based, such as Chinese. You can change the reading speed at any time during speed reading.
